From 1 January to 30 June 2024, Belgium holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Presidency is awarded in rotation to a Member State for a period of six months. However, in order to ensure the continuity of the long legislative process European, successive presidents spend 18 months together in what are called "Trios". Our country has therefore already been in consultation for some time with Spain - the current president - and Hungary, which is the next country in line. Belgium will focus in particular on current issues such as security, social policy, the green transition and economic growth.
