William Shakespeare
After celebrating theater at the beginning of 2022 with Molière, the Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to William Shakespeare , a playwright whose major work continues to inspire artists around the world.
Born in England in 1564, he left such a mark on the language of his country that English is still often referred to as " the language of Shakespeare ".
Equally gifted in comedy and tragedy, he wrote no fewer than thirty-seven dramatic works, including the very famous Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet . To pay tribute to him, the Paris Mint is striking a series of gold and silver collector coins.
