Alexandre Dumas and the Three Musketeers - 10€ Silver Coin - 2024 (variants available)
OBVERSE
Two elements link the four coins dedicated to each of the four Musketeers: a part of a "1"
which becomes whole once the coins are placed end to end, and one of the four letters of the word "all". These
elements are a nod to the novel's iconic phrase: "One for All and All for One."
- D'Artagnan:
On this side, D'Artagnan is depicted in the second low position. In the background on the left,
jewelry refers to the main plot of the novel: the queen's ferrets. On the right, ears of wheat and
an armed lion, symbol of the coat of arms of Gascony, are placed in front of a map of Gascony, a reminder of the origin of the character.
- Athos
On this side, Athos stands in a third position. To his left are represented fleurs-de-lys with
additions of lace and feminine attributes, recalling his story with Milady. Stemmed glasses and
bunches of grapes to his right reflect the character's good-natured nature, and a map of Béarn, the character's place of origin.
- Porthos
On this side, Porthos is in the quarte position. The fleurs-de-lys and swords to his left symbolize the
King's Musketeers of which he is a member. On the right, various French specialties reflect his bon vivant character: a stemmed glass, wheat, bread, vegetables, meat.
- Aramis
On this side, Aramis is depicted in the fifth position. The fleurs-de-lys and swords on his left
symbolize the King's musketeers of which he is a part. To his right, books and churches illustrate the man
scholar that Aramis was as well as his hesitation between a religious career and his career as a soldier
musketeer.
REVERSE
The reverse shows the face value surrounded by two branches, one of oak,
