By issuing this second 2 euro coin of 2024, the Royal Mint of Belgium is not only commemorating the long history of the fight against cancer in our country. This issue is also a concrete expression of gratitude to all the professionals and volunteers who have dedicated themselves for years to providing medical and moral support to people going through what can be considered the most difficult time of their lives. Through this coin, we also want to continue to draw attention to the need to support patients and their families.

The obverse features a stylized rainbow at the top, symbolizing hope for a world without cancer, with the place name BE and the year 2024. The center features a heartbeat in the form of an awareness ribbon, often worn as a sign of solidarity with patients. At the bottom, there are the bilingual inscriptions “Fight against cancer / Strijd tegen kanker” surrounded by the initials “IB” of designer Iris Bruijns, the mint mark (an Erlenmeyer flask with an aster), and the mint mark (a Mercury rod) of the Royal Netherlands Mint, where the coin was struck.
