OBVERSE

The inner part of the coin depicts a design that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution. In 1974, the April 25 Revolution in Portugal ended 17,499 days of dictatorship. It brought about a new constitution, universal suffrage, the creation of political parties, recognition of the independence of the colonies, and equal rights for married women. This coin highlights the importance of the carnation, a symbol of freedom. In the upper part is the legend "Esta é a madrugada que en esperava" and in the left part the name of the issuing country "Portugal" and the year of issue "2024".
