The Rose Window Collection - Resurrection of Notre Dame de Paris - 5 Dollar Coin - BE 2024
PREORDER OPEN! DELIVERY FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER
The coin represents the stained glass window that appears on Notre Dame de Paris, west side. It is the first rose window installed on the cathedral, probably installed in 1220.
On April 15, 2019, a fire destroyed part of the roof of the cathedral, which was under renovation. The fire lasted 15 hours, causing real damage. The spire was completely destroyed by the flames, as was a large part of the roof structure. Fortunately, the altar, the organs and three other 13th century rose windows survived this fire.
President Emmanuel Macron gave the cathedral a five-year deadline to restore it, and in September 2021, generous donors contributed €840 million to rebuild it. It is scheduled to reopen in December 2024.
