"United in diversity" is the motto of the European Union. It characterises the way in which Europeans have come together, by creating the European Union, to work towards peace and prosperity, thus enriching themselves with the continent's different cultures, traditions and languages.

The dove is the symbol of peace. On the face of the coin, the dove is drawn in a graphic and modern way. It carries an olive branch whose branches have been replaced by the 12 stars of the European flag, symbol of peace in Europe. The 28 countries of the European Union are referred to by their own ISO Code. The Europa Star Program logo is present below the dove.
