In the external ring the twelve stars of the European Community are arranged in a circle and separated by a curve representing the revolution of a star. The engraving represents the physicist Galileo at his work table, equipped with an astronomical observation telescope. The vintage is on the table. Above the physicist, the name of the emitting state "San Marino", below "Anno Mondiale Della Fisica" and around the letter "R" of the monetary workshop of Rome and the initials "LDS" of the Luciana engraver of Simoni.
