Obverse

The piece shows a primitive drawing gathered to the symbol of the euro (€). It reflects the idea that the single currency and, by extension, the economic and monetary union are the culmination of the long history of trade and economic integration in Europe.

The piece is issued by each country in the euro zone and bears its name as well as the legend "EMU 1999-2009" in the country's language (s).

The Luxembourg room differs slightly from others: as the Luxembourg law requires that the effigy of the Grand Duke appears on all the parts, it appears in hologram.

The graphics were chosen from five drawings preselected by citizens and residents of the European Union, who voted online. He is the work of George Stamatopoulos, engraver at the Hôtel des Monnaies de la Banque de Greece.
